Ideal for all ages.
Every evening, Serenity Boat Tours depart from 7pm until 9pm. Enjoy the incredible peace and tranquillity of the Farne Islands during an evening cruise. See the wildlife basking in the evening light, watch the jumpling’s (guillemot chicks during the breeding season) take their leap of faith as they leave their nests and keep your fingers crossed for a beautiful sunset over Bamburgh Castle.
This is a very popular trip for photographers as the Farne Islands bask in the warm light of the ‘golden hour’. A sunset cruise is a wonderful way to end to a brilliant day on the Farne Islands.
What's included
Serenity Farne Islands boat tours sail all year round to the Farne Islands, one of Britain’s most spectacular wildlife habitats! They offer different trips throughout the year from landings, photography trips, whale watching to ‘sail arounds’.
Our skippers are incredibly knowledgeable about the geography, history and the wildlife of the Farne Islands. We also have an on-board wildlife guide and we are happy to answer all your questions before, after and during our trips.
Highlights
The Farne Islands are a small group of islands a few miles off the coast at the Northumberland village of Seahouses.
They consist of 28 islands with varying visibility depending on the tide. Some of the islands have wonderful names, Megstone, Elbow, Wideopens, Goldstone, The Bush, Glororum Shad, Gun Rock, Staple Island, Brownsman, Callers, Crumstone, Fange, North and South Wamses, Roddam and Green, Big and Little Harcar, Nameless Rock, Blue Caps, Longstone and the furthest out at over 4 miles from shore, Knivestone.
The Farne Islands are formed by the most seaward outcrops of the volcanic intrusion called the Great Whin Sill. This can be traced from Upper Teessdale in Durham where it forms the High Force waterfall all the way up to North Northumberland to the Farne Islands and the rocks upon which sit the castles of Lindisfarne, Bamburgh and Dunstanburgh. The dolerite rock gives the Farne Islands their distinctive blackened appearance.
