This Itinerary Schedule
Friday 13 February - arrive in Newcastle
Arrive at Central Station and head straight to The Centurion for a pint or a glass of wine in one of the city’s most unique pubs and what's more; they’ve recently been crowned one of the best in the country for a Guinness by the Harp Guide. From there, either head straight to your hotel or swing by Tickets for cocktails inspired by The Flying Scotsman, all aboard!
To keep those good vibes going, enjoy two-course dining and prosecco for two at Banyan. With gorgeous decor and an unmatched location (you’ll immediately spy Grey’s Monument upon arrival) this spot is guaranteed to get you in the mood for a long weekend in Newcastle!
Afterwards, we highly recommend a visit to Tyneside Cinema for a late-night movie. Newcastle’s oldest independent cinema is steeped in history and is a cinephile's dream location to enjoy a special screening of “Wuthering Heights” to round out your first day.
Option 1
Saturday 14 February - Daytime
Start your day among the cobbled streets of High Bridge with a coffee from contemporary cafe, Laneway & Co, before venturing out to Ouseburn where you can begin a food tour with local experts, Triple A - taking you to true culinary highlights and best kept secrets in Newcastle's quirkiest neighbourhood. Here you'll also discover a true relic of the past, the Victoria Tunnel. A historic underground wagonway, later converted into an air-raid shelter during World War II.
Option 1
Saturday 14 February - Evening
End the night with 9 Holes of Crazy Golf at Junkyard Golf Club for a healthy dose of competitive fun before enjoying drinks at newcomer Assemble. You may be too full considering you’ve sampled the very best bait that Ouseburn has to offer, but – if you can make room – their current kitchen residency SOKU cooks up exceptional small plates with an Asian twist.
Option 2
Saturday 14 Feb - Daytime
Start your Saturday with a visit to see St James' Park; home-ground of the mighty magpies - the city-centre stadium is bound to delight many football fans (except SUFC supporters, perhaps).
Just next-door you'll find Chinatown where a caffeine hit can come in the form of Tsujiri - a cafe inspired by traditional Japanese tea culture. Not only do they serve delicious matcha and black sesame-based drinks, you’ll also find a decadent display of sweet treats.
While here, you’ll find local highlight Blackfriars Restaurant nestled away from the hustle and bustle. Here you can enjoy a Brewery Tour and Lunch in a historic 13th Century Priary that is bound to wow you with gutsy, traditional British food.
Option 2
Saturday 14 February - Evening
As the sun begins to set, venture over to one of the best pubs the toon has to offer, The Free Trade Inn showcases stunning views over the Tyne that will make all your friends ask “Where is that?!”
To level-up your evening, why not go all out and try a Tasting Menu for Two at Six Rooftop just across the river! This Gateshead jewel sits proudly atop the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art and is a sure way to win over your date.
Sunday 15 February - final day
Wake up with french toast at Quay Ingredient before heading on an adventure with a twist. Follow CBK Adventures on an unforgettable experience down the Tyne in their Bridges and Quayside Tour.
If you have time for a stroll, it would be remiss to skip on the Quayside Markets. Open every Sunday, this strip of independent vendors is popular with locals and tourists alike, having been part of North East culture for longer than most can remember. You can visit between 9am and 4pm to check out traders from all over the region selling handcrafted goods and local products.
Before your train departs, swing by foodie favourite Dobson & Parnell for a late lunch or early dinner; expect casual fine dining and old-school glamour in a stunning setting on the Quayside. Be sure to book their 3 Course Lunch and Glass of Fizz offer ahead of visiting.
Where to stay?
- Low – Holiday Inn Jesmond or Cairn Hotel ideal for Osborne Road staples such as Branches, Sohe and 97 & Social
- Mid-range – choose between perfectly situated Motel One or traditional glamour at The Vermont Hotel
- High – go for the luxurious Dakota on the Quayside or newcomer Hotel Gotham
